Certified Professional Co-Active Coach

Lisa Wojahn; Houston, Texas

I embrace change with optimism and new eyes looking at situations with childlike wonderment and an excitement to master new skills and learn more about all perspectives. Curiosity and learning drive me to understand people and live my life as an adventure. I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania surrounded by a loving family and witness to the traditions of the Amish and Mennonite sects. Before the age of 8, our family moved to Mexico City where we spent just over a year before returning back to Pennsylvania. Contact with multiple cultures at a young age, learning and speaking different languages, and exposure to different ways of living instilled a sense of acceptance and wonderment in me. Although I was not sure of where I fit into the huge world scheme, I knew that the world offered an amazing variety of experiences for me to embrace.

Since my marriage to Tom, I have supported him in his career; first as a Coast Guard officer, currently in the oil and gas industry. He is an oceanographer and meteorologist and a leading expert in the Arctic. I started my career with the Department of Treasury after graduating from Suffolk University and attending the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. As a mother, I chose to focus on raising our children and helping them transition with moving every few years to a new location. I volunteered with a variety of organizations in leadership and educational capacities. I gained a working knowledge of ASL (American Sign Language) and have exposure to the Deaf Community. The past four years, I have worked as a life coach and have earned my CPCC (Certified Professional Co-Active Coach). After returning from Moscow, Russia where we were privileged to live for a year, I enrolled in a Master’s of Liberal Arts program at Rice University.

One short period of time illustrates how I approach challenges. When my son began to lose his hearing, I took a brief time to mourn his loss of hearing. Then I began to research all of the choices we might face if his conditioned continued to progress. Not knowing what his future held for him, I felt that I needed to be informed on medical, cultural, educational, and psychological levels to assist him in making a decision in the future. Our family began studying ASL and fortunately for us, we were able to immerse ourselves in Deaf culture as we lived around Washington, D.C. We made many friends and my son gained confidence and insight on what it meant to him to have a hearing loss. He continues to have a passion for ASL while living in an oral/aural culture. I feel that what might have been a challenge ended up being a positive experience for not only me but also for my son and entire family.

I have a passion for learning, for gaining perspective and understanding of cultures and people. Knowledge, traveling, and beauty are some of the loves I bring to coaching and when interacting with others. Witnessing my clients stepping into the lives they wish to live makes coaching fulfilling. Applying my learning and experience with a passion, makes me a knowledgeable coach.
